Lime Kiln Bay Wetlands, Peakhurst

Oatley
Flora and Fauna Conservation Society (OFF) has cleaned up a site in Lime Kiln
Bay Wetlands every one to two years.  OFF
has run a public awareness campaign in the area to highlight the environmental
values of the wetlands and to encourage litter reduction in the surrounding
gutters that drain into the wetlands.

Lime Kiln Bay receives
a lot of rubbish washed down from an industrial site and shopping centre in a
busy road in Mortdale.  A trash rack is being upgraded upstream on one
tributary feeding into the wetlands and we will be monitoring the amount of
rubbish in the wetlands for the next few years, to see if the trash rack is
effective.

We recommend gumboots or other waterproof footwear for
wading through the wetlands (which include mangroves).  You may glimpse
some of the wildlife that lives there.
