The wetlands are situated just downstream of Lake Ginninderra and extend for about 900 metres as Ginninderra Creek winds through the suburb. For the past 18 months the Lions Croke Place Wetlands Land Care Group has been planting and weeding throughout the area improving the amenity for the local population and those passing through on the bike path which parallels the creek.
Miles Franklin School students visit the site for their environmental studies, fishing takes place at the spillway and in ponds, and walking with or without dogs is very popular.
There are many species of birds at the site and to the trained ear or eye 20 and more can be found at any time including Tawny Frogmouths, Reed Warblers, Pardelotes, Kookaburras, Cormorants, and Herons.
